New Orleans, Louisiana was one of the first cities in the US to be considered a hot spot when the COVID-19 virus hit. In New Orleans, there is no shortage of festivals or Mardi Gras krewes so when the clinical team pitched the idea of an all-night COVID-19 vaccination event, we quickly jumped on it. The team decided to turn the event into a festival, called “Vax Fest” and booked a full musical lineup including local musicians like Red Wolf Brass Band, DJ Jubilee, Amanda Shaw and the Orleans Opera Association. Spotify playlists, social media frames and appearances by the New Orleans’ Saints and Pelicans mascots also added to the excitement. We played on the New Orleans theme and incorporated a favorite local saying, “Let the Good Times Roll, (Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler)” to play off of the idea of rolling through the event in your vehicle. The message was also a sign of hope and a nod to the resilient community, excited for what the future held. During Vax Fest, the Ochsner Health team administered over 5,000 Moderna vaccines within 24 hours.
